Onstar...not so great

On City TV, just now a Onstar equipped truck was envolved in a severe roll over last night (one fatality), Onstar notified police but were off by more than 10km on the vehicles location. Kinda suprised me, disscuss?

Onstar explanation is going to be: The unit was thrown 10km due to impact Isn't this how americans always explain their ****ups? lol

mabye if the interior of that car had fewer buttons and gadgets, the driver would've been paying attention on driving?

I dont know if this accident was the drivers fault, but i really dont see onstar as that useful, except perhaps if you frequently drive in areas that dont have a lot of traffic.

since 99% of my travel is ether in majour cities, or on majour routes (407/401/400/404/427/QEW/I-90/I-271/etc)

If i needed help -> cell phone
If i rolled my car-> someone would see/call cops

I guess damage to the unit is possible, my understanding of Onstar is that when the airbags are deployed a signal is sent to a call center (the unit must have worked to send the signal?) providing location info. As such a small margin of error makes sense but 10km seems really excessive.

We've got On Star in the familymobile. What a waste of money. The only semi useful feature is to unlock the doors if you've forgotten the keys. Otherwise, the phone sucks and I had to coerce them once to get directions, it wasn't part of my plan or somethign...

haha, thats what i was gonna say. the only thing i find useful about it is the door unlocking... SERIOUSLY alleviates some headaches for that once in a blue moon that you lock your keys in your car!
