e36 airbag - putting it back in

So i bought that bimmer that had the cooling problem, it is basically resolved... my friend is buying the car from me, he wanted to make sure the car still has all its airbags, so he took the driver side airbag off but he cant seem to put it off..he said something about the white connector plug being in his way, the car has the nice 3spoke steering wheel
so basically when he tries to place the airbag it is sticking out because of the connector plug
anyways he is just wondering where the plastic thing goes (i think its what connects the airbag electronically)
he lives pretty far away so i want to give him an answer and be correct
