No, the quality will be in inferior, but it won't matter. These cars will stay in China. They'll still be better than most Chinese made cars, but there will be many shortcuts taken, whether BMW wants to or not.

which is a mistake in my opinion... bring in slave labor to BMW.. and you'll get the volkswagens made in mexico syndrome.

same goes with Mercedes-Benz, the R, GL & ML are built in Alabama, build quality is definitely lower.

Chinese cars built in China for Chinese consumers. Makes sense. The economy works and the Chinese expect lower quality since they don't pay enough for good quality.

Same goes for american built MB and Toyota. Build in America for Americans. Just *look* at the quality of cars american's are used too, lol.

Nothing and everything is wrong with "Made in China". The reason everything is made there is because they do it for cheap. And though there may be a few quality products that slip through, the manufacturing culture there is "cheap cheap cheap." If they can save money by cutting corners, they will. If they get caught doing it, they bribe. If the bribed get caught, they commit suicide. The cycle continues.

The reality of it all is that even though the quality is shit, without China, we wouldn't be able to afford all the crap that we do. Almost all the money from imported chinese product goes to the retailer selling it and the shipping involved once out the door. This stuff is made for nothing.

And like it's been said, luckily these B-M-dobowoos are made in China, for China. The aren't exported. So hopefully, we won't have any need to fear about hopping into your shiny new 5 series and seeing "Made In China" printed on the door frame.

Apparently the 5's are suffereing from a lot of electrical problems in china. My dad was going to buy a 530iL there, but now he's iffy about it.
