head suggestions

i have a 1994 325is. im not sure if i need a head gasket or something else. heres the info i can give. 1) car does not overheat 2) exhaust does have a sweet smel 3) i do have a coolant leak not sure if its coming from water pump or hose. 4) thermostat isnt good ( im changing that tmrw) could that be the problem? the car doesnt really run great and at dead stop it misfires very little. can anyone help me. do i need a head gasket job? something completely different? anyone have similar problem they solved before? thanks in advance.

could be a bunch of things..!

spray/ mist some water on your wires & coils at night while its running
look for a free lightshow = bad wires or coil.

really got under the car yet? look for beads formed drops of coolant
might help you spot it..

anyways the final 'is my car leaking somewhere internal' test is a Leak Down Compression Test.
done at better shops, before they just start 'replacing' parts.

well i just changed my thermostat because the car started to over heat a little. i also went ahead and changed the coolant reservoir sensor because i kept reaiding check coolant when there was coolant. but the check coolant keeps coming up. and when i turn my car off after a drive theres a smell from the muffler. kind of hard to describe but sweet i guess. does this help anyone diagnose my car at all?

Sweet smell from the exhaust usually indicates that you engine is burning coolant. Cracked head, blown head gasket, cracked cylinder sleeve, etc....

the factory head gasket is apperantly paper & metal ? so yeah..?
