e34 erratic idle

HELP>>>>>>>>>>>>

I have a late 91 535i with electronic throttle body. Sometimes the car starts sometimes it doesn't. When it starts the idle is fine, when i put it in drive the RPMS jumps up and down, so much the car wants to jump fwd. The guy i bought it from says it's the throttle body and if you wack the shit out of it the idle will go back to normal (the guy was a true mechanic LOL). When you try and drive the car it will be ok for about 1/4 mile and the it jerks like crazy and the pedal goes dead and the EML and asc lights come on.

I changed the throttle control motor on the throttle body but it still does the same shit. there is also a vac line that for the life iof me i cannot figure where it goes. it splits of a hose that runs into the intake on the drivers side and is approx 18in in length.

First i would check into that vacume line, that can cause a lot of idle problems...

I dont know about the newer 3.5, but on one of my old 635's the idle problem ended up being the computer (they have a small box that just controls idle)...But im almost sure the newer ones have just the main ECU...

Look under the intake boot between the airflow meter and the throttle for the vaccuum line attachment. If you replaced the throttle then you will need to re-adapt the unit to the car.
