Insane Honda Prelude seller...........

Since my brother is looking for a car, I spoted this silverish prelude honda in my street. So I took down the number and phoned the seller. Quite decent and polite guy on a phone. He tells me the details.
2001 Silverish 'Lude honda, driven and purchased by his wife. The car looked mint as I passed and seen it, how ever I saw a ding on drivers side front fender. Tires are kinda worn out as well.
It has 75 000km on it and Tiptronic tranny. So i asked him how much and here is the shocker...............(I told him i will look at the market since i am a bimmer guys and not familiar about Hondas)
He is asking $13 500 firm wow. I am amazed. Am I crazy or is he crazy. He has been selling it since december of 2007. I know that Toronto has this hype when it comes to Japanese cars but hey...
This car is 2001 so 2009 is just around the corner. It's a 8 years old car! During this economic slow down, who is willing to pay close to 14k for this kind of a car? Can't you get a 330ci or 530/530 for this kind of cash....

What's you give or take on this?

Preludes hold their value. I sold my 14 year old prelude with 300K on the clock and RUST on the body for $4000. And it was easy...

I agree. The positive side is that I did not make any negative comments over the phone.

good thing, because like someone else said, preludes hold their value very well. and as a matter of fact most hondas do.

^ I think so too. It does not have the trunk wing so it looks very basic. It DOES HAVE leather tho.

With 13.5k, I told him to lease a brand new golf/jetta for 6 years on 2 terms as 3 years each with 0 down. Not to worry about repairs or anything. I also think that bank would give him some interest on 14k, so the golf with standard trany would come very cheap.

Type-SH. But they didn't come with the auto, so this isn't one of them.

If it's a 2001, it could be a SE model, which came pretty much loaded (final year of the car). The car would be worth it if it was manual.

I sold a mint but high mileage Black 97 Prelude Type SH 268K, factory skirt, fully loaded for $6000.00 last year. Glad it went to a mature owner as this was was never raped or modified.

No everyone can afford the maintenance on a 330 or 530. Look at the price of an oil changed compared to eachother. $90 for 330 or $24 for the prelude. You can pick up a Porsche for 30k but that doesn't mean you will be able to afford the cost of maintenance.

Some people are asking close to that for E30's .. that still blows my mind.

That is true but some of your comments are way off. $25 for oil change. No way! My friend has a brand new base model civic and it is $35 or 45 at mr lube. For Perlude it is more. From what I have seen, lot of those perludes have swaped engines to fix burning oil issues. That's what I read from the kijiji and craiglist. Olso this one came with tiptronic. If it goes it will cost arm and leg to fix it. Used car is a used car and after 5 years , you will start putting money in to it.
