or you can go over to the JDM side and get a nice EG civic hatch with a GSR motor? it'll be fast and loud and will prob. get stolen within the week you buy it.

im 23 years old. i want to stay away from american cars as much as possible due to their fuel consumption. I know I will start working on the car at some point. I was thinking of maybe an Audi a4 1998, but then i heard from a friend of mine that their parts are even more expensive than bimmers, but if i get a nice deal on one, i'll go for it

and stupid to work on...

try something JDM. reliablity wise they are great, and mod wise they are king, nothings faster than a hatch civic with some decent work done.

sorry, by 'work on' i didn't mean performance wise, im not much of a performance freak but more of reliability and looks. Im looking for a car that i can work on over time and make it look nice (nothing like a ricer look).

Ford Ranger pickup. Already about as reliable as you can get. You can work it up to look real nice, and it will still be practical. Get a fibreglass tonneau cover for the back for starters.
