door doesnt close, help

the other day i opened the door and when i closed it, did not close, by not closing i mean the door was shut completely but could be open without the handle, just by pulling the trim
when i put my finger in the mechanism of the door the thing will close/lock but when it comes to closing the door it doesnt seems to close/lock

any clues?

maybe lube up the latch on the door side? might just be sticky.
