Anyway, what kinda gas mileage does the 540i-6 acutally get in the real world (L/100km or kms on a full tank)???
I'm getting 29 to 34mpg on highway.
City driving I average around 19-24mpg

Hwy avg is about 30. Combined I got 22 mpg.

As for the 5 series vs 3 series. Doesn't eveyone know about the M chip? That's BMW Marketing chip. Any 3 series being challenged by a 5 will lose because the ECU will slow down the car slightly. After this happens a few times, the perturbed 3 series driver will have no choice but to upgrade to a 5. M3's apparently are not excluded either!!!

I have a 4.0L and I drive it hard and do a 50 - 50 city/hwy. I consistently avg just under 20mpg (18 - 19) and get around 550 - 600km a tank. I never drive it to empty so thats approx.

Numbers speak for themselves. Everyone can claim "magazine racer" but the truth of the matter is half the people you guys are racing are very inexperienced drivers. No suprise the car that is "supposed" to be faster is slower. OMG some moron can't drive so the car must be slow.

Give both cars equal drivers etc and then start talkin about the car... until you do this you didnt kill a 335 you killed some idiot driving a car that ahs more potential then he can use.

I dont doubt a 540 can beat a 335 in "real world". But equal driver skill I would be puttin my money on the 335.

PS. We have a 335i in our stable.
Only cars i can comment on is e36 M3 and verdict is 335 walks hard on it.

I'm back... this time with an E39 M5. I recently raced a 335 ix on the 407 - prolly not the best example for this thread.

I was doing 140 on middle of the on ramp and the 335 was at the of the curve. I caught up really fast then slowed to his speed, about 120. Only then did I realize it was a 335.

He must've seen me coming. I could smell the sulphur and I assumed he was flooring it. So I obliged and downshifted to 3rd. I passed him on the right at about 200. 335 went for the left lane, and I stayed in the right lane, slowing down for traffic. When it opened up a bit, I passed him at about 180 then I slowed to wait for him to catch up. I kept checking the mirror, but I think he gave up.

The 540-6 was a lot of fun, but this thing is something else!
