Sweet. Sounds like you had a chance to talk to the guy. Or do you know him somehow? friends?

For those of you who don't know the 'poster'. He's not one to embelish his stories.

C'mon guys. We all know anything can happen on the street. 335i may have had low tire pressures??? Tons of factors. Either way, I'm surprised at the outcome myself, but don't doubt it happened.

545i definately walks on 540i's, 6 speed to 6 speed, and 540i's are similar to E46 M3's on the highway, which are similar to 335i's. This means **** all until it's under controlled conditions, stock to stock, run to run.

540i/6 can run w/ E46 M3 at high speeds. There are E46 M3 owners on bf.c who will attest to this. One guy owned a 540i/6 before switching to a E46 M3 and said that up top they're equally fast.
I second that ... 150km/h+ stock e46 M3 will not outrun me (540i6 with CAI, chip, exhaust). I pulled on a couple of M3s at 180km/h. So, it's very possible that a 540 outran 335 and high speeds(I'm gonna have to find out the hard way )

I was just as suprised as most of you.
Don't know the driver and he was suprised that of the outcome.
I spoke to him ans he stated he was pushing hard and shifting to red line.

I raced a few stock 540I and all of them I pulled in higher rpm range that's because of MarkD chip.

One thing that I noticed he was shifting much sooner then I was, and that's where gained most of my ground.

If the 335 started in a higher gear, its totally doable.

He was in 1st just like me. We left the light together. He nailed it and I was right behind him. I changed to the left lane he stayed in the right.

I don't care what you un-believers say, we raced and he lost to a better car, nothing wrong with that.

i kinda have a few doubts again too many variables , on the highway i could believe it only because power has more to do with the equation than weight at speeds.

We all know that E46 M3 is just as fast as M5 on the highway. They are extremely similar.

here are the specs

0-200km/h
M5 - 18.9sec
M3 - 18.1sec

80-200km/h
m5 - 17.2sec
m3 - 18sec

So unless for some magical reason 540i's are as fast as M5s, I doubt e46 m3 and 540i are comparable cars.
