E30 318is vs E30 325i

My car (318is) has a custom intake and thats about it. I have an aftermarket rear box but it doesn't help power I believe. The 325i has a chip only. Both are 5spd.

We lined up (desert stoplight, noooooobody around), I got a decent launch (3500 or so), 1st gear he pulled.....2nd he pulled....slightly into 3rd he pulled. We shutdown at about 100 because the speed limit was 45(mph).

I was impressed. The M20 pulled smoothly in every gear and the M42 just fell flat on its face. Probably a good 3 car lengths to 60 in the 325i's favor.

Good times were had by all

yep... the 2.5 still rules, until an M50 comes into the mix

The 325's love drag racing!.. and if you want more drop a 4.10 grear in! 318is is more tailored to the track, it will hold its own in a hair pin turn that's for shure.

what do u mean you got a decent launch at 3500? like u went into 1st at that RPM while rev'ng?

and when you say "he pulled" on those gears, what that mean?

A "launch" is when you begin a race from a stopped position. in a manual car it helps to hold the rpm at 2000 or higher to create enough power to spin your tires and quickly leave the start line.

"Pulled" means the other car pulled away from you. or you pulled away from him. as in your car or his car was accelerating faster.

drag racing for dummies:

1. pull up to the line beside another car you desire to race
2. shift into first gear with the clutch in
3. hold your rpm at 3000 or whatever
4. wait for the light to begin the race
5. quickly let the clutch out and press the gas pedal down all the way
6. shift gears everytime at the peak rpm

With all do respect..the only solution is to get rid of the 4 cycl.
