m3 owners provide info
looking to buy a e46 m3...currently looking at a 2002.
i know of the rod bearing but are there any other issues or problems i should be looking for? when buying the car, any places i should pay attention to?
i also know of the door seals that can fall or sag.
any tips would be great.
thanks,.

check for worn front control arm bushings, worn rear trailing arm bushings, make sure no subframe damage, check the sunroof opens, and closes properly, all door locks are working (bad door locks), check AC is working (faulty watervalves don't close the hot coolant off) etc

some E46s can be prone to subframe damage, its a manufacturer abnormality. just flip up the carpet in the trunk and see if the floor looks like its getting ripped from the rest of the frame, im sure you'll be fine.

The front and rear control arm bushing should be checked during the safety inspection, otherwise the mechanic should not certified the car. For 2002 model, make sure it has given the extended warranty since the rod bearing issue, also check the warranty if there is any coverage for engine oil. My friend has M3 around those year, 2001 or 2002, and it has a problem of burning engine oil, and his M3 is covered for free engine oil re-fill.
Other then that, the AC/ Heater sensor module is a must-check, almost all the BMW have to have that replace after certain period of time.
Good Luck
