Need some info on E36 M3 Canadian model
Hello guys, I just need some info on e36 m3 performence, is it true that the NA market's e36 m3s only have 240 hp?I have checked serveral bmw mags and some says 240hp, some says 286hp, 1 week ago when I was checking autotrader for m3s ,and a eruo spec e36 caught my attention, it claims the car has 286hp because it is a euro edition... I'm new to bimmers so could any one tell me the differences between these two models?, engine, tranny, etc. Thanks very much for reply~.

The 1994 canadian M3 was a Euro Spec. As in, they took european M3's, and shipped them here. They come with euro s50 motors, individual throttle bodies, and 286hp.
Unless you know what you're doing, be very careful buying eurospecs. Lots of them have been butchered. (and there's only 45 of them).
Stock canadian spec m3's, (96-99) are 240hp s52 powered cars.

There are only 2 M3's that have seen Canadian soil. There was the US version of the E36 M3 that had only 240hp. This one is most common. However, for a limited time which I don't know when exactly, there were only a handful of Eurospec M3's sent to North America, a much smaller number for Canada. The Eurospec model had the full 286hp. This model was sent to North America in both Coupe and Sedan versions, the rarest being a Technoviolet with Cinnimon-like interior. I'm not sure as to why we received such a de-tuned verison but I think it had something to do with some US Automobile Standard. I also believe that the nature of the de-tuning had something to do with the programming of the VANOS units synonymous with the E36 generation. This all holds true for North America. Europe however is an M wetdream. They began with Eurospec M3 mentioned earlier which sports a 2990cc 286hp i-6. The E36 M3 Convertible was introduced in 1993, and the Sedan in 1994. In 1995 BMW released the M3 GT to which only 406 and were made, just 7 more cars than required to be considered a production vehicle. These 406 M3 GT's were all green Coupes that sported an upgraded version of the M3's 6 which had 9hp, 2 ft/lb gain in power. This version of the E36 M3 never crossed the ocean. Shortly after the E36 M3 EVO was unveiled. This M3 had a high-spec 3201cc i-6 lurking under the hood with 321hp and 258ft/lb. It was also given a 6-speed gearbox and M5 brakes. This version unfortunately had faulty VANOS units that were quite inconvenient and expensive to repair/replace. This version also never came to North America. in 1998, to mark the end of E36 production 50 M3 GT2's were made just like the EVO with exclusive colours, larger spoiler, high-polish 5x2spoke rims, and extended front lip splitters. This final Eurospec version was sold for more than 11,000 pounds more than the original Eurospec M3. The E46 M3 also follows a similar pattern. The US version has 333hp and 3246cc i-6 which is quite close to being considered a 3.3L but is technically a 3.2L. The Eurospec version of this M3 actually has 343hp. A few years into this generation, and M3 CSL was released with carbon fibre upgrades, different style rims, and and upgraded motor with 350hp. I believe this was available in North America in very limited numbers. Unfortunately, no M3 sedan was offered in this generation creating a greater anticipation for the upcoming E90 M3 to be released 1-2 model years after the imminent E92 M3 release. These latest M3's now sport a high-revving 3999cc V8 with 420hp and 295ft/lb.

No eurospec m3 was ever imported to USA, so all of them (45 cars) went to Canada

It doesn't have M5 brakes, it has the same brakes as every other M3, except they changed to floating rotors.

In reality the difference is only about 5hp, europeans measure hp in different ratings. 1 EURO HP = 1.01 US HP
