Oxidation on alloys ?

Hi,

I recently wire brushed the rim on my alloys but i seem to be getting oxidisation like a dirt mark on them, someone told me that i have probably removed the protective layer off them, is this correct ? if so what am i doing wrong do i have to wire brush to get the shiny rim back and then lacquer it to protect ?

please someone advise as its getting to me.

wetsand them with 1500 and 2000 grit sandpaper then use a polishing compound

Do i need to lacquer the rim after blasting back to bare metal to protect the alloy, and then polish.
