m20 problems

hi,
i've just finished putting an m20 in an euro e21 and i'm having some driveability problems.

currently the car is running with no air filter because stock box doesn't fit and i haven't bought the cone type yet...i don't know if that would contribute to the problems but what happens is if you don't accelerate gently the car will choke up and sputter, but if you accelerate slowly it will go fine. there is an oxygen sensor hooked up. i thought that would have been the problem at first.

does the motronic need to be reset now that the oxy sensor is hooked up?

anyone have any suggestions?
