Off lease inspection.

Hey guys,

We just had our off lease inspection today, so we are one step closer to our new 328i sedan! I was wondering is this whole of lease inspection a new trend or is it only for high end cars? With all our other cars (Subarus and Mazdas) they do and inspection at the dealership when we bring it back, but we have never had a man come and do a very detalied inspection at our home. It was very interesting to watch and see what they look for and what they do. Lol im not happy i didnt get a chance to wash it before the inspection!

Ya, what do they look for? We traded ours in 1/2 year earlier for a new 325 and didn't get that formal inspection, however we had gotten the letter. What do they look for? Just the general things?

They look for any excess damage on vehicle. Scratches bigger than one inch, dents, cracks in windshield, excessive stone chips, worn tires, worn seats, rim damage, etc.
BMW has their inspections done by an independant inspection company. To avoid conflicts of interest...
Basically, if your dealer tells you that your car looks fine when you return it, dont listen to him. BMW stricttly goes by the inspection that was done by this independant company. Not by the dealer's. Trust me on this one

Why would that matter though? Bmw AG didn't sell you a car, or sign a lease agreement with you. BMW canada did.

They also check all the options the car was equiped with, brakes and he used a special device to check the paint work.

The off lease inspection was a bit scary for me. They almost expect a perfect car back, not a 3 year old car. My car is mint, and he was still looking at the very minor road rash on the wheels.

If you had paint work done, it has to be from a BMW approved location, or they may charge you to redo it. Like I said, it is easy if you are returning a perfect car.
