My E30 Projects - E30 carpet removal/emergency brake replacement
Hey guys.. well the day started out by changing my emergency brake cables and shoes.. if you decide to do this, the OEM stuff fits in soo smooth!.. Here are the prices
E-brake cables- Both - Approx $100.00
E-brake Extenders - Both - Approx $70.00
E-brake Shoes- Both - Approx $ 80.00..I forget
E-brake Rebuild- Both - Approx $ 50ish.. i forget
my cables were stretched.. i figured I would just do it all..The hardest part was pulling the old cables out of the housings..kinda have to see what i mean.
Anyways I fixed that all up. and it works nicely
Now I decided to pull my carpet and clean it. I have always wanted to do this, so I think its good time spent!.. I have pulled it out, now i am eating dinner and then I will take it to the wash and spray it down!!
This whole day started with an oil change!
Anything I should do before I put the carpets back in?? ohh yea NO RUST ON THE FLOORS!!!!!! yea baby!

congrats on the no rust part - you must have been happy to see that; i know i was. theres not even any under the dead pedal on the drivers side and in the passenger footwell?
you could always tint the carpet black with the vinyl spray dye - crappy tire sells it. my buddy dyed his carpet - looks like it came black from the factory. really adds to the look of the interior of the car, if you have black seats.
unless of course its black already.

It doesn't look dark enough(could be the flash), but still its an improvement. Hopefully it lasts.

yea, hopefully. It's not perfect i agree, but for $30 (used 3 bottles) and a bit of elbow greese it's still much better than stained light grey.
on the rust part: i also didn't see any rust at first (except for some surface rust around accel pedal). Then i noticed some cracks on the driver side asphalt sound deadening as if something from underneath pushed it up a bit. So i decided to tear away the whole side and found several spots of surface cancer starting. I cleaned it up and covered the whole driver side in POR15.
as for good carpet cleaner: i used OXY brand bought in CT and it worked wonders on stains (you gotta do some massaging with a brush).

well its drying in the basement as we speak. How long does the paint take to dry? also did you paint the carpet behind the speakers?

paint dried in like 3hrs, i gave it a day just in case. Because of the nature of the carpet (the bristles or whatever you call them, can be swayed to one side or another) what i would suggest is to sway all bristles to one side with a brush, paint, wait till it dries, then sway them to the other side (the opposite motion with the brush) then you'll see some grey protruding from the new black in tiny patches, paint it again. This will make it more uniform. (kind of like the same idea when dying hair)
do you mean rear deck? Yes i painted it as well, same paint, came up pretty good

IS your carpet painted on this picture?
Looks stock!!
I also did mine on the convertible last month and what a difference from gray..it looks like a complete new interior with the black color.
I also replaced my interior with a complete black leather seats and all from another e30 convertible.
Keep it up boys ..it looks good.

Thanks
it looks like that because of flash, it is pretty black in real life.
It is a huge difference in color comparing to what it was (light grey)
