installing 6.5" speakers in the front

i've heard different stories from different people... some say yes and some say no... some say you have to cut the door to make them fit, others say just spacers will do... can anyone shed some light on this, cuz i already have a brand new set of 6.5" components i'd love to throw in this car instead of having to buy another set of 5.25"... anyone have 6.5" installed in the front?

i ended up just buying 5.25 components instead of modifying the door to get the 6.5's in... car is coming along, but now i'm having problems fitting in the panasonic dvd deck i got... doesn't want to fit the standard bmw audio bracket for aftermarket decks! and there isn't enough power to power my kicker sx700 2 channel for the subs... i was told i need a line driver? anyone have any suggestions to this? apparently the deck doesn't output enough power... btw.. if anyone's interested... i have a set of infinity 6010cs (6.5 component) for sale since they didn't fit my car...

I see you have an e46. I've just done some audio upgrades but on an e36, so I won't be much help, not familiar with upgrading that car. Try posting this in the e46 section, you'll get more response.

What is the output voltage of your deck? And what does the sx700 require?

How much do you want for the 6.5's?

i'm not sure what the output of the deck is... but apparently, most decks cannot output enough power to these amps for the subs... this is what my audio installer says.. as for the component set of speakers... i'm asking $200 for them... here's a link at futureshop for the speakers:

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...58&catid=11043

also have a set of 6x9 infinity kappas that i never installed... back when i had the prelude... asking $175... lemme know... will trade towards a line driver or rims, or shocks or springs =)

go for the 5.25

I ran into your exact same problem. I bought 6.5 JL VR component speakers and could not fit them in so luckily I was able to exchange them for the 5.25 speakers. They went in fairly easy and they sound a hell of alot better than the stock speakers. It's just kind of a bummer about their location down by your feet.
