NO THEY WEREN'T!!!!
I had a 1985 Toyota Corolla, the chasis code ON THE CAR was AE86..... it was not an AE85 (ghetto Corolla in japan). All the RWD corolla's that came to us (NA) in those years were the AE86's, the only difference between the car i had and the Trueno, was the paint job, and the LSD, for the most part.
They had little HP, but they weren't THAT light, and drifting wasn't that easy. Believe me, i watched a lotta Initial D back in the day, and i though they were great cars till i owned one, hahaha. I'm only kidding, they are FUN cars, but still ASS when looking at what else can be offered for a nice RWD platform. They didn't handle all that great either, they had a solid rear, no IRS so thats what helped them slide a little easier!
Still, i do regret selling the car, i just realized at the time it cost too much to maintain and mod 2 cars. I do hope to pick up another hatch one day (hate the coupes) and restore it since it'll more than likely be rusted to hell. Throw in a nice 20V (1.6L that came with OEM ITB's!!)...... yummmm
As played out as it is, i still love the 2 tone white/black. The one i had was 2tone blue!
