Haha.. cops... my buddy has sold at least 3 systems to different cops . DirectTV is as safe as it gets for "borrowing" signal. Be prepared to program your HU card at least once a month if you get the free progs. off the net. Direct TV also has a 4th Gen. card out (hasn't officially been hacked yet as far as i know), so the HU cards will only last you for so long, buy a 4th gen card now before the prices skyrocket. And yes, they will eventaully be hacked. With Bell... see pic..
I pay about 50 a year for my programming and I get all the channels and have my own programmer. The Hu stays up longer but miguel is right get a access 4 card too so when they take the Hu off the data stream your not up the creek for a card at 200 bucks. I think it will be some time before you have to worry about getting in any trouble for having a dss dish. I have both and use expressvu antenna's ( dish) for the average onlooker won't be any wiser.
The HU card will only last until next summer, that's when the next card swap is taking place to phase out the HU completely for the P4 cards. These cards are Java-based, with dual levels of encryption.
As for being busted, the cops only bust the people that bell gets a warrant for, meaning the big time dealers so I wouldn't worry about getting one.
