Lightbulb Group buy: E36 Depo Gen IV headlights

Ok. I'm gonna try this ONE more time. The last thread got too big and it didn't start with a group buy in mind.

This is a group buy for EBAY depo gen IV ellipsoid (H1) headlights. Depo Gen IV are considered the best right after ZKW and BOSCH. The reason I am doing a group buy is to get a much better price. This SAME group buy was also done from the same seller, in April 2006.

Prices:

With CCFL Angel Eyes:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-E...52423655QQrdZ1

5 people: 210USD/set + 14% tax +exchangerate = $274 CDN
10 people: 200USD/set + 14% tax +exchangerate = $261 CDN

Without CCFL Angel Eyes

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/92-99...51147603QQrdZ1

5 people: ~150USD +14% tax +exchangerate = $196 CDN
10 people: ~140USD + 14% tax +exchangerate = $183 CDN

Bulbs NOT included. We can do another group buy for that.

For this price (and so that we don't have brokerage fees added on top), we will need to go pick them up at the border, so someone with a van or something will need to devote some time, and maybe everyone can chip in a few bucks for gas.

I am not sure if he will mix with AE's and without for the same prices, so for now let's just see who's interested in either.

It shouldn't really end... seller will do it with enough interest.

if you're picking them up at the border, why are you paying tax?

i agree with mirek.. if we pick it up at the border, we have no need to pay PST/GST..

if the bulbs are from the same seller, maybe he can package a whole deal or something

We still need to declare them if you dont' want me to go to jail. You pay the Canadian taxes, but not "brokerage", which would be like the paperwork charge of having to be declared by someone else.

We don't pay importation fees because these will suppsedly be marked as being made in the USA and will be good under NAFTA agreement.

ya, that are you guys, out of your minds? dont pay tax because your picking it up yourself... thats nonsense. of course you pay tax. but you can ask the seller to give you a fake invoice with lower value for border crossing purposes, then perhaps you can save some tax money.

the big thing is the brokerage fee, as flav_cool already explained. usually it is some preposterous amount that UPS makes up.

Whats the quality like on these headlights? Will I be able to see at night? What about about condensation build up, 2 or 3 years down the road. Just want to know before I buy these. I'd rather spend twice that amount and get really good ones if these are just OK. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks

I'll let others chime in, but this is what I know. DEPO, the company that makes these has had different "generations", or models. In the earlier models the plastic of the headlight was cheap, and there were condensation issues. However, with the generation IV, these problems are pretty much gone, although, for example the plastic still isn't 100% as good as the ZKW's or Bosch's.

The light projection is also I would say 80% as good as the ZKW's or Bosch's. The type of light it is, is also the same, i.e. Ellipsoids that use H1 bulbs.

They look pretty good. In the picture without angel eyes I could tell the plastic around the lights is black. The headlight with Angel eyes, are they also black. I can't tell because of the way the light is shining on the plastic.
