Half of my engine room done

Well guys, finally making some progress on my car, had to start hiding from customers and their cars, just kidding.

Thanks a billion to Dave AKA "bmdoubleya" for coming over to my place and for helping me to get this done. His Chop, Cut, Rebuild kinda guy did an outstanding job painting my engine room, well at least half of it.

My car was oil sprayed a few years ago and since it does not see winter for regular sprays, the oil hardened and this guy painstakingly cleaned it, prepped it and painted it.

We only did half of it since he took so much time to do it perfect, I love this guy, in a car way that is

My car has only seen 7 years of winter so is 99% rust free, however, the few spots it has are in some really weird places.

This one is just next to my fuse box, my only guess is that someone placed a brake fluid bottle there while topping up and it leaked.

Good weather, it snowed here this morning Alex I can work in my garage right through winter, but prefered to spray paint the car outside because I dont want overspray all over in my newly renovated and painted garage. I have lots of tools and electronic equipment in there as well and would hate if they got oversprayed.

The engine bay was the only area I wanted painted before I pulled the car into the garage for the ground up work to commence.

How is your car doing BTW?

did you guys not prime or atleast sand the surface first? looks good.. but i wonder if you will have adhesion problems...

Thanks for asking, car is ok. Trying to make it a bit more civil, it's my only car after all. In process of putting some more sound deadening at the rear (stupidly i taken off and threw out the asphalt in the trunk some time ago)
I am experiencing some weird noises coming from rear, maybe you can help identifying those?

Jeremy, that side was chemically cleaned, sanded and scuffed with automotive scuffing pads prior to painting. Some parts were sand blasted and primed.
The guy who did it is a pro at a big dealership, so I am sure he did a great job.
I dont think it will have adhesion issues, I am more concerned about melting the paint with the turbo throwing tons of heat on that side

Alex the fact that you have installed the IE bushings at the rear and removed the sound deadening material in the trunk will increase cabin noise for sure. If you intend driving the car in winter the IE trailing arm bushings, they will run dry and will get worse. I will be using OEM bushings there because they have to pivot and would wear less and is less noisy.

The fact that you mentioned vibration which ceases with the clutch in, almost indicates that it's a drive line issue.

The scraping sound you are hearing can be the drive shaft center bearing which, if bad, will cause vibration and noise as well. This is more noticeable under acceleration and coasting. Did you change it before the installation?

I am sure Charlie will be able to identify it easily.

cool... you never know these days... lots of people just clean and go...then wonder why there paint is peeling off...

a clean engine bay makes the car IMO...

who is your painter? where does he work?
