E36 vibration

There is an UNBEARABLE vibration in my 328i as soon as you hit and climb above speeds of 80km/h. This makes highway driving absolutley horrendous, does anyone know what's up?

I went to RMP today and we noticed the front right tire had a bump in it, causing the cyclic vibrations the faster I went. It seemed that the vibration was stemming from this area so we checked the tire first. Now, immediatley after we swapped the tires I went for a quick test run and the car drove like a beauty - it stayed well planted all the way through 160km/h - somehting that hasn't happened for about 2 years! (read on). However, tonight (about 7 hours later) I had to go down to Mississauga and the vibration came back.. just as noticeable - if not moreso than before

Anyways, 2 years ago I ended up smashing the car into a curb after trying to avoid a sutpid animal on the road The rim was done with, so I ended up buying a new one. Could this have had an impact on perhaps teh tie rods, ball joints, or even the suspension?

It seems like my joy was shortlived after RMP's handywork. Thanks to Mark for taking the time to quickly help me out! You guys seem great, looks like I've finally found an independent tech

Anyone got any clue to WTF is going on here?

ive got the same problem.

i recently swapped ouy my outer/lower ball joints and that helped for a good while but now its back again. so next im swapping out the inner/upper ball joints to see if that will help.

if your ball joints have never been replaced. its most likely them, they tend to fail on our models.

id say start there and see what happens

Thats definitly a big possibility, see if you hit the curb hard enough to damage your rim, it took a lot of the damage force but it will definitly have an effect on the tie rods, ball joints, wheel bearing, control arm may be bent or the bushing might be gone it could have possibly even damaged your steering rack depending on how severe, and fast it all happenned. Take it to the shop to check it out. At Bimmersport we do these bushings, and ball joints at least 3 times a day, so we've seen it happen all the time.

vibration problem

I had the same problem and i coudnt figure it out on my 325. but then one day when i was driving i noticed that there was smoke coming outof the front tire. upon inspection i figured it out that the brake caliper was ceased constantly jamming the pads on there hence causing it to vibrate at higher speeds. maybe it loosened up after u took the tire apart and it is back on as soon as u applied the brakes.

another problem that i had in my mercedes causing it to vibrate was the drive shaft rubber linkage which was torn aprt and was imbalancing the shaft and hence the vibration at higher speeds. check these 2 things out and then let me know how it goes.
