FYI, it's never impossible to hack as long as your computer is on, and connected to the internet.....well, for most normal home users.
When I used to work tech support, the System Administrator there bet me he could get into my computer no matter what I did, as long as it was connected to the internet. I got home, I got a software firewall, turned on all the settings (blocked all ports, blah blah blah), I turned on the XP firewall, I did the same to my hardware firewall/router, I password protected everything, turned off file sharing... Basically I couldn't even use the internet. With in five minutes, I noticed a text file on my desktop called 'Hi.txt', this is what it said:
You're wide open!

Now that is skill. He wouldn't tell me how he did it though, which sucks.

Just shows ya how much security you spend on your computer OR car...if they want it...they will get it! But it does stop the amateur hackers out there tho!

Well, you can have the most kick ass car alarm, it's not going to stop a tow truck. A tracker on the other hand....
The sad part is that most hackers hack just for the fun of it, just to see if they can. Ah well, everyone has a hobby I guess.

Hahah, my comp was hacked into a few years ago. I got a dialogue box opening up saying "hello". I knew what was going on and so I just unplugged my internet connection from the wall.

my friends.... nothing is ever 100% secure.
just think, your comparing home use rinky dink dsl/cable routers with "so called firewall built in" and costs a mere $100 - 150.
you can purchase a $30k cisco pix box (which large companies use) and still have security threats. this type of appliance will perform the low level packet filtering which home routers will never do, and still there are potential threats.
remember, nothing is safe. and regardless of how much money you invest in security, there's always someone out there that can break in, especially the guy who programmed it!
you can never have enough security, but the more you have, the less likely someone will spend the time breaking in. just depends on how eager and destined the hacker wants in.
