M50 Swap

Hi i got a E30 325 with the ETA engine.
ETA engine his realy low torque engine. but lack of high rpm fun. i have put a Jim Conforti chip from turnermotorsports on it. it made it more funny. but not enough.
many people talk about M50 2.5 engine swap. So i want to know how it will cost and how hard will it be to fit in the engine bay and does the 190hp one will be better then the 168hp?
Thank

If you are going with the M50 2.5L out of a 325i (same as mine) you will be spending around $5000 to $6000 parts & installed. Best thing to while finding a good engine is take your time and stick to the years between '92 - '95 (low milage is a must...100,000 km and under) out of a wrecked car. Eventually when I save up enough funds again I will be looking at a custom turbo for it. If I want to run over 9lbs of boost then that will be another $15,000 but would give me about 350hp at the wheels! Good luck and happy hunting!

I don't really care if someone does the same thing. Beside when ever I bring the E30 back out (this spring or next) it is going to look a little bit different.

That's why i love the E30 they are 'light weight' compare to otehr ?cyl powered car. a 325 like mine weigth 2723 pound. there 4cyl car with 2800 and more weigth
so with a 200hp/ 180lb-pi torque engine it should kick ass!
Does the M50 with more then a m20?

I weighed my car at the scales with everything in it (stereo, rollcage, wheels, 3.2L motor) and no gas... it was 2840lbs. I took the stock heavy carpet out with all the sound insulation as well as the entire A/C system and stock seats.

M50 into a 1989 325iX?

I love the idea of putting that smooth M50 engine into old e30's.
I have an 89 325ix ... is it possible and would it make sense to swap an M50 engine into it?

Ronin,

This was brought up before. I'd do the search for ya but the net is so damn slow this morning! The E30 IX cannot benifit from a M50 engine swap due to the M20 oil pan. Why? The driveshaft goes through it! The best thing to do is to pick up a 325e, i, or is (depending on how much work you want to do). empowerd's car and also my car started off its life as a 325e due to the fact that the initial cost of the car is low and we haven't kept anything stock (ie: engine, body, wheels, and interior...well mine isn't at his level YET).

So do some homework and save up the $0.01ies!,
Dave
