M30 Variations

Does any one know waht the differences were between the 533 and the 535 (e28 generation) M30 motors? I know on M20s the only differences btwn the variations (325e vs 325i/s) were valvesprings and cams. Is this the same with these two motors? Basically I have a free 533 donor and I'm swaping it into my E30, but it needs to be rebuilt anyway so I'm just going to rebuild it with the 535 parts in the place of w/e the 533 parts are! haha That was long winded... TIA!

I think the head is slightly different. From what I heard, the latest M30 version uses better parts

They did indeed changwe the head twice in the series, however i believe this was the same head in all of the M30's AKA 533 vs 535=same head... i think, but thasts what i am trying to verify, you are correct however the third revision of the m30 had revised coolant passages as well as a gfew other improvements. Thanks for the info, keep it comin guys!

this M30 (old generation, produced to 7/1987) 3,2 had a 272° Camshaft. the 3,5 had a 264° and makes more power in lower rpm/1min.

and over the years they have changed the Engine management , BOSCH MOTRONIC -> Jetronic ,

the 3,2 runs in the 733i and the 3,5 in the 735i.
