You'll need a new spring for the e-brake button.
The button unscrews... pull and unscrew.. it will take a long time and it'll seem like you're not getting anywhere.. but be patient, eventually it'll come off. Replace the spring, screw the button back on, and enjoy.

ok, maybe I need some clarification.

does the button on the e-brake work? (to lock the e-brake in position?)
does the ebrake move up and engage the parking brakes on the rear wheels?
does the ebrake not move at all?

it's true, I did.
I'd just pick up a new e-brake assembly and swap the entire thing...
