E30 perfomance after engine swaps

What kind of 0-100 and 400m times are you people getting after engine transplants?

what do you mean by transplants? Are you refering to a simple 2.5L M50 24v swap or a 3.2L or larger swap? Obviously the results will vary.

for an M50/2.5L swap, the gains may be minimal over a M20 2.5L... it's really only 22HP. The people that I know do it mostly for reliability. The times that we've tried were as follows....

stock 325i -

0-100 around 7.0s
0-400m around 15.7s

M50 conversion

0-100 around 6.7s
0-400m around 14.9s

M52 3.2L U.S spec (my car - no blower) with G-Tec

0-100 5.8s (a lot of wheelspin)
0-400m 13.8s (best time)

I haven't had a chance to time my car with the blower and headwork done to the motor.... but right now my biggest problem is wheelspin... it just lights up the tires in 2nd gear under boost.

I'm trying to get the feel of power from the different engine swaps.

Are you going to do anything about your wheel spin problem?
Do you think is possible to put 300hp to the road on the E30 to get consitent 5s 0-100?


Do you think a set of 255 tyres would give enough traction to put down all of your power to the road?

I might start of my E30 project with a E30 M3 (~$4000-5000USD in Poland).

What tyres can you put into a E36 body? Is the E36 body stonger than the E30? Maybe the E46?? Desision, desision....

Randy: what do you think about 325ix? Is it feasible for drag race? How much gain do you think in lack of spin?

There's a good thread about the performance possibilities of the 325ix. I don't think it's a very good car to do any major mods to for high performance results. It's quite a bit heavier and the high increase of driveline friction really robs power to the wheels. You might hook up better but the transfer case is also delicate and won't take much abuse. I think it's better to reinforce a regular 325i driveline.
