VIN question
i went to check out a 2001 BMW z3 3.0, the badge ont he back says 3.0, but i get the V.I.N and turns out ont he computer the when punching in the vin it says its a 2.5L.. this sounds very fishy to me. the guy says he ordered a 3L but they gave him and he payed for a 2.5L and the records say a 2.5L but he insists it might be a 3L.. he says he didnt put the 3l badge on the back and he is the first owner.. is there anyway i can tell wut it really is?

The displacement is stamped on the block. Take it up on a hoist.
Most likely its a 2.5L Also the 3.0L is much quicker than the 2.5L see if you can test drive either of those and compare them.

Here's a few things you can check visually.. The front rotors are much bigger also they come 17" wheels standard.. Post some pictures.
