Cool M3 exhaust

I have a 2003 M3 with 16,000 K -- the exhaust sounds like a bunch of tin cans -- does anyone have any suggestions? The technician at the dealer says that if I make enough noise (complain enough), they will install a more "American sounding" exhaust. Has anyone experienced this?

American sounding exhaust? I would look into getting aftermarket stuff for your m3. Get the UUC rasp-x midpipe for your car.

They sound that way due to the headers/cat combo. An aftermarket exhaust will help, but you will still have that tin sound.
Rasp X is a good start, I use to have one.

Dinan is not too loud, but the single gas outlet bothers me. Borla is not refined IMO at all.
What are you looking for in terms of sound? I have had or heard pretty much all the combos out there. Perhaps I can help.

I'm looking for a more deeper sound, maybe a deep rumble, the
noise it makes now sounds like all the baffles are loose in the exaust
system somewhere. It just doesn't sound like a $75.000 car to me!

Stalker is the man when it comes to M3 exhaust; he's owned most combinations - current setup sounds great!

First thing I would suggest is getting a UUC rasp X or the Rogue mid pipe. Test that out with the stock exhaust, and see how you like it, it will change it for sure. After that, you can start playing around with exhausts, depending on how loud of a set up you want.
I use to have a Rasp X and Eisenman SUS Meisterchaft, sounding amazing.
My other sugguestion is to head out to a meet where there will be some M3s, and take a listen for yourself.

Thanks. Has a nice balance of exhaust and engine growl.
