I'm going to Germany!

I don't post too often but I do find the information shared on this board invaluable. Like us all I love Bimmers and in July two of my dreams will be realized.

1. I'll be at a World Cup match, quarter finals in Berlin
2. I'll be visiting BMW headquarters in Munich for a mouth watering look around the museum and factory.

My question is: Do you know if buying E36 Euro spec headlights and bringing them back here is cheaper then ordering the ZKW ellipsoids?

If anybody has ever bought parts in Germany I'd like to find out where the shops are and their names would be great.

Thanks Boys

Parts are much cheaper in germany. when i was in munich, i called around to some salvage yards, prices were nice and cheap. I will point out that salvage yards in germany are somewhat different than in north america, something to do with TUV regulations, but you shouldn't have a problem.

wanna pick a few small things up for me

Thanks. I'm proly going to buy new parts to avoid disappointments, but salvage yards might be a good place to get some comparisons going. I gota worry about bringing the stuff back tho. I'm asking myself how I'm going to bring back headlights, maybe shipping them would be best?

What parts are you looking for?

Yes, that's exactly how I got my ZKW's. Vacation in Germany and sent them back here. Go to a scrap yard down there, get them used from a wrecked e36 for a few bucks and send them back. Why spend a fortune on new ones for no reason.

Sehr gut! Du will lieben deutschland I lived in Berlin for the month of March and its fantastic. Make sure you to the New Berlin pub crawl when you are there! Right by Oranienburger S bahn station - every night at 8pm

I went to a handful of bmw "autoverwerter" junkyards and it was hit and miss. They either didnt have any old e30s lying around, or the holy grail of bmw teile (parts) in berlin I searched for hours around an industrial park not finding the address. Naturally the phone number didnt work either....

I hope you speak some German since most of the grunts at these places dont speak a word of english, although at the dealer you should be fine.

Headlights are "scheinwerfer" in german

Pick up a copy of Zweite Hand (at any newstand) in Berlin, and check out the section BMW Teile. Its like a pennysaver type magazine, but there is a fair number of people parting out e36s etc, privately, so you might score some better prices too.

Good luck and have fun!
