i was just thinking the exact thing, but more in terms of demographic. I think the NEW bmw consumer falls into one of a few catergories (status seeking, just want a dependable car but can afford it etc, style concious etc)

used bmw's is a whole new market, because e36's are cheap, e30's are dirt cheap and even e46's aren't breaking the bank anymore. im really not sure who drives bmw's, but i know i do

in all honesty? almost everyone. BMW's range of vehicles appeal many types of people from various cultures. The rich folk, the grocery getting mom, the university students, the pure enthusiasts, the speedracers, the car tuners, the luxury lovers, and of course those that just care about the badge, and those who just need a dependable car to get from A to B. These cars can be found on every contenient, ranged from 1st world to 3rd world countries... and beloved the same throughout. You'll notice that on this forum, there are people from many locks of life. Sometimes causes differences of opinions, but that's a part of life.

The two markets that BMW has not penetrated are the off-road junkies, and the yee-haw pick-up truck southeners.

1) Fun to drive
2) Well built (lasts a long time if cared for)
3) Simplicity of design

E30 fits the bill for me perfectly.

It all depends, you can't really compare someone who buys $5,000 BMW to someone who buys $100,000 BMW. I got mine because I love the looks, comfort, and performance is great too. You can't compare BMW to any american car, it's just different. Then someone else will say why buy a 6 year old car with over 100,000km when for the same money you can buy a brand new american car. It all depends what you're after.

people who want
1. status
2. power and handling
3. to buy expensive gas
4. affordable leases (annual BMW promotions)

I own one because of
1. status - boss and senior management despise me at work
2. power and handling - ricers back off
3. expensive gas - I enjoy making billionaires multi-billionaires
4. my discount

here are the reasons I wanted a BMW

1. it's RWD
2. it has performance potential
3. it's not a bad platform to start with
4. they're easy to work on for the most part
5. parts from other BMW's can be mixed and matched (like VW, Honda)

A) Its a BMW
B) Chicks dig BMWs
C) Chicks think your rich, cause you have a BMW
D) 1992 look the same as 1999, with minor differences.
D) Chicks dig BMWs
E) Charlie Works on BMWs
F) The Emblem looks simple, yet cool
G) MaxBimmer
H) Chicks dig BMWs

Over all, I wanted RWD(either a BMW or a 240sx), Somewhat of a status symbol, yet still sporty at the same time. E36/E46 fits that criteria in my eyes. As does a G35c, but I dont have $40,000 to dump into a car.
