E36 M3 or E46 330i?

I'm waiting for an estimate on body work and paint for my 93 320i with 285000 kms. I've got two quotes coming, splash and dash to sell or prestine job to keep. Mechanically and interior wise the car is excellent but driving through Edmonton winters has taken its tole on the body. So depending on the #s i may be in the market for something newer. So E36 M3 or E46 330i?

I've always wanted an E36 M3 but an E46 330i might make more sense.
Opinons?

i say m3.....but im biased
the handling, power, speed, and all around driving fun is defintely worth it.. but msanity is correct..its hard to find a nice one, with low km, that hasnt been beaten to S@#T
however im not driving mine in the winter..sooo practability may be an issue (unless u decide to drive ures year round)
if u have any questions bout e36 m3 specifically...ask away..i can tell ya everything ive experienced, the positives..and the negatives.. (there are no negatives) that ive encountered

I'd go for the 330 just because it's newer.
Lower potential for problems.

In terms of performance?
Not exactly true, E36 M3's are a tad faster than the ZHPs.
The M3 is 100 lbs. lighter, with 5 more hp and about 10-12 or so more torque.

Also quoted from bf.C, written by a ZHP owner:
Quote:
Acceleration? M3.
Braking? Close, but probably ZHP.
Handling? Very close, too even to call. Edge to M3 because it has an LSD. But the ZHP has better turn-in and is more stable. M3 easier to rotate under power.
Comfort? ZHP.
Refinement? ZHP by far.
Fun to drive? M3.

Correct me on this if I am wrong .

I just drove my Uncles 330Ci this past weekend. Wonderful car, but compared to an E36 M3, everything is much lighter... Clutch, gear change, steering, etc.; and it did not feel like it pulled nearly as hard (in 2nd and 3rd at least).

The best bet is for you to go out and test drive both. It all comes down to personal preference.

I would go for the E46 330.

I've driven both cars and the difference in performance is really only noticable to a stopwatch. The decision goes to the E46 is because its newer and I liked the overall "feel" of the E46 as compared to the M.
