Unfortunately, there is very little you can do to a 2.0L 8V to make it fast – apart from replace it with a 1.8T or VR6.

The main mods are the APR turbo upgrade kit I linked to further up the page, plus a Techtonics Tuning cat-back exhaust and a TyrolSport upgraded side-mount intercooler.

I dynoed the car a few times at TAG Racecraft in Oakville. The most recent dyno was 267 hp and 278 lb-ft at the wheels on pump fuel. Assuming a driveline loss of 14.5%, that would be 305 hp and 318 lb-ft.

I haven't really done anything major to the car since 2003 when it had 50,000 km on the odometer. 184,000 km on it now. It takes a beatin' too.

My car is pretty slow when you consider that the guys from SEM are rolling around in 600+ HP VR6 turbo Golfs and Corrados.

I've never been to the track. APR, the manufacturer of the kit, ran a 12.6 @ 112 mph with their test car on 104 octane fuel and drag slicks. APTuning's car ran an 11.87 @ 117 mph with the same kit and a single fogger 50 shot. I'm not saying that I could pull off either of those times. It takes a really good driver to launch a FWD car well.

It's not that hard with slicks. It will take a few launch attempts after that it's all good.
My 87LX wih slicks and 90/10 shocks I launched at 3000Rpm and hooked up every time. I know front wheel is a litle bit different.
