e36 17" tire sizes

Hi guys i'm getting some new tires tommmorow and would like a quick answer. I've been running 215/45/17 all around for the longest time and would like to know if i can run 225/45/17 to make em look wider. I'm not really sure about the rims specifics. What do I need to find out?

PS> will tramlining be much more noticable?
