UmNitza states...
"Change fuses to 10A and/or 15A (for the E36 those are located in spots 11 and 12 in the box)

PRETEST the bulbs"
so...must be fuses 11 and 12 I guess

see site link...install tips are towards the bottom of the page

As Andy said. The fuses for the headlights are located in the fuse box. Check the lid of the fuse box to find which fuses you're looking for. And yes, the left and right headlights use a different fuse. BMW staggers their electrical system, so if a circuit goes out (fuse blows, or wire burns out) you're not left without any headlights, or brakelights.. instead only 1 will go out, and you're still left with a partial system.

^^^ Smart engineering. I don't think all cars stagger like that.

see this is the problem...i took out fuse 12 which is the fuse for headlight (lowe beam driver side) according to the chart...but my lights still turn on (day time) then i cannot find fuse 11 (passanger side low beam) in the box there is none....so im thinking does the e36 318i convertible place the fuses for headlights somewhere else in the car?????? basically my drive side low beam doesn't work...day time as well as highbeam work fine..

erm.. if the fuse is missing, then put one in there.
no, all e36 fuses are in the same place.

first, find out what else is running on the low beam fuse circuit.. are those things working? if so, then your fuse is definiately fine. next, check your bulb. are you sure you didn't get a dead bulb, or that it's not installed securely? if the bulb is fine, then check to see if the wires plugging into your headlights are providing electricity.
