The good thing about the vehicle is that there is NO RUST!

I understand that the earlier e36's tend to have lots of minor mechanical problems. Does this only apply to the 3xx's and not the M3's?
I'm still wondering where to actually look for more of these vehicles. Or are ebay + yahoo the only ones worth bothering with?

The only difference between the 95M3 and 96>M3 e36 models is the suspension the 95 is a lot stiffer. The 96> have OBDII and 3.2Ltr engine which produced a little bit more power.

I think you are forgetting to mention that you bought it with a blown engine.
Or I'm thinking of someone else??
96+ car have different front suspension geometry with increased castor.
They also have firmer shocks and springs.
3.2l enigne has the same power as 3.0l, but has 11 more pounds of torque available at lower rpms.

Have you been on bimmerforums.com? Plenty of cheap M3's on there (I bought both of mine on the forum).
Not much difference between 95 and 96+ ... as long as the car is in good shape, either one will server you well. Basic maintenence will be required on any car, but as miles add up, things like colling system become issues.

i swear it feels like toronto car prices are at a premium or something considering many dealer cars in the states are selling for cheaper(YES WITH the exchange rate conversion)...but the difference wouldn't be worth the import because of the taxes and duty crap

I got a quote for transpoting a vehicle from Canada to the US. They wanted $2500! Dunno if going the other way costs that much but I'm pretty sure it ain't cheap.

try www.roadfly.org classifieds, but most M3s on there are hella overpriced.

You have to pay taxes in Canada as well ... 15% for a dealer car, 8% for private sale. The duty is only 6.1% ... fees add up to about $300, and shipping is ~$1500USD (mine was from San Diego, so basically cross country). Remember that the US cars will be WAY cleaner, especially the southern ones. To me it was a no brainer.
