Part number for K&N filter

Hi, i'm going to take off my oem airbox and put a K&N universal corn filter in, but there are so many of them so can anyone tell me what inner diameter should i use(i'm guessing 2.5" to 3") or can anyone post part number you've been used please? thank you!

is the heat shield really important? should i make one as well?

are you talking about a CONE filter?

If so, you need a tube as well as a filter, i believe it has a 3 inch opening, you can use any filter so long as it has the right size tube to grab onto. Basicly what you see in the picture is what you would need to do a basic ram air filter.

And yes if you do a ram air filter you need the heatshield to keep heat away from the filter, if you do a COLD AIR intake where the filter is behind the bumper you dont.

Thanks! knowing 3" diameter can minimumize the search range, since K&N has 1000 filters to choose from. Where can i buy the tube? and what to make heat shield

the pic i showed you came striat from ebay, go there type in bmw e36 intake. dont get anything that doesnt have a REAL K&N filter. Or look for other brands such as dinan and what not.

the one i showed you sells for like 50 bucks U.S.

you can buy a premade heatshield, but they arent cheap, sometimes you can find a good deal, maybe someone on here knows one. They are typicaly made of aluminum, plastic, some time carbon fiber.

also on ebay they sell complete kits with the tube filter and heatshield for about 100 bucks or more U.S.
