you won't need to bypass your oem amp, for your deck to work. just plug it in and away you go, same with the speakers.

proprone, that box pictured above is a 4th order plexiglass bandpass enclosure.

I have a 500watt peak 12' Rockford sub in a sealed box 800watt amp and stock E30 speakers and I love it. I find that having the ski boot helps a lot with the level of bass that makes it into the cabin. When I have the center arm rest closed you already hear a difference so I can imagine the difference if it wasn't there at all. The only complaint I have is that the stock speakers don't have the greatest mid range but it isn't bad enough to spend the extra money on speakers.

i think i have the 10 speaker cabin harmon kardon or whatever. i dunno, cabin sounds decent enough to me, just gonna have to make sure the bass doesn't drown out mid/high tones, but with only 600 watts peak, i doubt ima be doing that anytime soon

You know what I don't get though... why do you need an amp rated more than the subs?

I just bought 2 subs 250 watts RMS each, and the guy I bought them off of was running them at 75 watts RMS each and it sounded pretty decent. Anyways if I get a 600 watt amp then won't the subs blow since I'm running 300 watts to each? So wouldn't it make sense to get a 400 watt RMS so each sub gets 200 rms and thus doesn't blow? I realize I'm way off here but someone tell me what's wrong about my thinking

Also what kind of amp would I need, a mono or 2 chanell or what? And what are ohms (i know they're resistance but dont' know what they mean when it comes to amps)

To over power by +20 to +40 % is fine, but to under powering them will be bad, and that goes for any other speaker too, and a mone is best for because class of power they are..

So it's bad even if you underpower a bit?

Can you explain why? Because say you're rocking a 600 watt amp, with 300 going to each subs which is how you say it should be... but it's 600 watts at max volume. So if say you listen to it quietly, t hen say only 100 watts are going to each sub, right? So does that imply that you have to listen to max volume otherwise you're damaging your subs?

And what does clip mean ?

Part 1 to the guestion you have asked, is this you tune your system to how loud you listen to it when you alone, for example you put your gain onthe amp 7o'clock or stock setting ok now you turn volume on your deck full and you turn back to 3/4 of volume, now you to amps gain and put to 9 to 930 o'clock....CLIPPING means like you hit rev limter on your car (stock that is)

Well if the amp clips (ie, it's being underpowered) I'll be able to hear and notice that right? And is it bad for the amp to "clip", or is "clipping" basically like protection that's being activated to not damage the sub, so it's ok ?

Sorry ivan i just whored up your thread
