If you could afford a 95 M3 I would say thats probably the best bang for the buck, a newer M3 would be yet better but more expensive. The next down the line would be the newest (97) 328is you could find. If thats still too expensive then 95 325is would be my next bet. Ideally newer 328is becuase not only are you gonna have slightly better performance stock but you ussually end up with more options as well.
The biggest reasons I bought my 94 325is was becuase the stock 3.15 LSD available in that year. i think it was discontinued as an option in 96.
But now in order to get to my ideal E36 I end up switching HVAC controls, 18 button OBC's, one touch sunroofs and alarms instead of diffs.

i love my 328. Wouldn't mind the extra power of a M, but i'd say the difference from 325 to 328 is prolly 60% of difference between 328 and M

lol, driven the 328 and own a 325...the 325 and 328 and practically the same car, both are slow and have many turbo/supercharger kits out there to rectify that problem, but stock the 328 has that low end grunt that the 325 never had.....if ur into going fast out the box, grab the m3...

Yup ... top notch. It finally arrived a couple of weeks ago, and now it's sitting in the garage waiting for the damn snow to go away
If you're considering an M3, go for a 96+. The 95 needs a bit of work to bring into Canada (a complete front suspension from a 96+ basically, if you want to do it legally). The 96+ needs only the DRL relay, and a child seat bolt kit.
Don't settle ... there are A LOT of beaterz out there. Wait until you find the right one!

M3 all the way, if you can afford it, accept nothing less. But you might as well buy one in Canada.

Wrong ... way too over-priced, or crashed/salvaged, or beaten to death. Trust me ... I looked!

I got a mint '96 no winters with full service records in Canada 2 years ago, #1point which was already said but needs to be said again, don't settle. I waited for almost a year, could have saved a couple grand going south but from what I heard it's alot of redtape. Ah well I couldnt be happier. Go ///M for sure.

why does the car have to be from 96 or later? there is something wrong with the suspension in the 95's does this go for all e36 3 series?
