130i vs M540i

My gf and I were on our way to dinner at a friend’s house when I noticed a 1 series tailgating me. I naturally got irritated and put my foot down. To my surprise he stayed with me. I slowed down for the next stop sign. I pulled off slowly and stayed in 1st gear. I then saw his nose rising like that of a speed boat and knew it was on.

He had a little bit of an advantage as he came up real fast and I heard his wheels chirp when he took off. 1st gear he gained on me quite a bit then 2nd gear he was right up on my bumper and actually went to the right lane to overtake me. I shifted to 3rd gear and gained a little on him. He backed off a bit and went back behind me. We went up to about 150 before braking hard for the next stop sign.

Sadly I had to turn right at the next intersection which wasn’t that far. I drove slow and let him past.
That’s an ass I wouldn’t mind spanking
The 130i is really an awesome car. I hope I have another run in with one again sometime soon

It's hard to tell you how they are when we don't have one yet.

Camaros are awesome for the application you are using. Fast in a straight line.

That's not the point of the car.

You're right, our machines are built for overall performance, not straight line 0-60 numbers... But I'm sure that I'm not the only one on here that likes doing a run off the line now and again...

BMW's are obviously not dragsters, but who doesn't love a good srteight line drag at least once in a while?

There is a better and cheaper BMW(even a better 5) than a 540 for every other purpose other than straight line acceleration. So what is the point of the car then?

Actually this question has been on my mind for a while... I have a 540 and it is fast on the highway.. but it doesn't drag well and it shows its weight and stupid steering while autocrossing... but it is stupid and fun.

I agree.... I'd like to try the E60 with active steering at AutoX.

It's great at low-to-mid (autocross) speeds. The active steering makes navigating the beer store parking lot a breeze!! I felt real bad buying laker (buck a beer) and putting it in the trunk of a new bmw. All the rednecks in 20 year old rusted pickups were looking at me funny.

And yes, 325 hp and mountains of torque sure is fun the highway. I love it when you give'er in 6th and pass people before they move out the left lane entirely, know what I mean?

I tried active steering in a 530. I thought it was awesome!!! Actually, I liked the fast ratio, but I appreciate how the active part would be a safety feature (at higher speeds) with such a wickedly fast ratio, and the boost to back it up.
