A kit or a component set are a mid (they're not woofers, if you treat them like it, you'll have problems) and a tweeter in two seperate units. Many have an external crossover as well. They perform a lot better than a single unit and if you've got the space, go for it. Assuming you do not want to drop a lot of coin, infinity has a nice line called referance that will meet your needs. If you're willing to drop a few more dollars the kappa speakers will do you well. I've got them in my car and I love them.
