a 325is versus an M3 in a drag race

anM3 would win wouldnt it?
i know the M3 is really a track car and all its power is in the upper rpm range..but could the extra torque of the m20 make any difference in a drag race.. someone was trying to tell me they beat an m3 in a drag race and i say no way..either it was a really short race or someone was sandbagging

other than making sure the m3 made it to 60mph faster than the 325is for selling purposes the cars are close on times..match up at 80 mph

The reason for the 325i being slower is because it needs a 2nd-3rd upshift before 60 while the M3 doesn't.

325i's have more usable power under the curve than the s14's. More fun to drive on a daily basis, more torque, don't wait forever for a power surge at high rpms.

I should also mention, because it isn't immediately obvious. Just because the 2 cars are close in a straight line, does not make them even remotely comparable on a road course. The M3 will decimate with a skilled driver.

The m3 will come out on top, but only barely. With a chip and a few other minor mods a healthy 325i will make short work of a stock m3. Why are you discussing draging in a bmw at all, it's not even racing.

Back in the days of the E30 M3, the easy way the 325i M20 could beat the s14 E30 M3 was to replace the diff to a 4.10...

And that is why the 325i M20 had a 3.73 Diff instead of the 4.10..
How can you sell a M3 which was more expensive than a regular 325i and have the 325i be faster...

Stock vs Stock

Once motor and suspension swaps come into play, the M3 advantage becomes smaller.

Thats just not the case either, although its popular belief. I used to have the numbers to prove it, lemme dig them up and hit this thread back.

nice discussion. im suprised the 325is & M3 are closer than i thought.....but looking at those stats as said b4 cuz the suspension and power in a track situation the M3 will distance itself from the 325is
