M42 vs M20

I'm not familiar with the M42 engine...what are it's weak points besides lack of power vs the 6 cylinder?

Also, generally speaking, what pros/cons are there between the 91 318i's and 91 325i's? It seems AC systems on the 318's is less prone to failure and that the head gaskets are a bit more solid.

Anyone ever own both cars and can compare?

Lastly, what's a 120000km, 318i, 1991 little rust, 4dr, worth?

Thanks

M42 318i's are slow.
M20 325i's are a bit less slow.

the m42 is a very solid engine, atleast with my experiance.
They have had problems with the head gasket however, when i purchased my car 4 years ago, it seemed as if the gasket was replaced(oil was evident all over), but very poorly, i went in and replaced it myself, and havnt put a dime into the car since that time. Except for a fuel pump 2 years ago.
If i had a choice i would consider a m42 for another DAILY driver. Rev happy engines. Despite all knocks on how slow they are, it pulls off the line more than expected, highway acceleration is slow.
120km might cost you some money later in time, shit likes to break around 160-180km range IMO with E30's.
