My steering fluid is leaking...

Guys, Im loosing power steering fluid at unnacceptable rates. I have to top it off every two or three days or else it starts creaking, whining, etc. I took it into the shop, he said it was something with my rack and pinion steering (not sure if he meant the steering rack is damaged), but I didnt get it fixed yet, as obviously he didnt have the parts.

A new steering rack for an IX is about $700us online, will come to well over a grand after shipping, etc. I need to know if a regular I one will fit, if it can be rebuilt, or if there can be other causes of its leaking that wouldnt require the whole thing to be replaced.

I know its hard to diagnose without actually seeing the car, but any advice you guys have would help greatly.

Thanks,
Seb

I'm not sure if a regular one fits, however the best place (person) to ask is Nando on r3vlimited.com. A PM to him will get any iX answer likidy split.

If you want to help solve the problem by not leaking alot and you need to do is add is a little bit a brake fuild and power sterring next time you add and the reason way is that there is a sponge in the sterring rack that will expand when you add a little brake fuild good luck

Seb: I've never tried this on an E30, however the Lucas stop leak for power steering works wonders for heavy trucks. If you know your rack is ****ed it can't hurt to try it out.

Forget where I read it, but the E30 M3 rack fits with minor adjustments.
