Rogers & P2P problems.. This may help

I got this ffrom VW Vortex

If you have Rogers and use P2P programs such as Bit Torrent, Kazaa, Limewire, Emule etc etc

You probably have been experience slow uploads/downloads.
Thats because Rogers is now throttling the ports for these P2P programs, giving them a low priority and resulting in slow uploads and downloads.

Try this quick fix... in any of your P2P programs, edit the ports they use for incoming and outgoing data from whatever it is (i.e. port 4600) to port 1720.

This is the same port Rogers uses for its VoIP telephone service and it has the highest priority.

You'll magically see your upload and download speeds jump back to norma

BS.

Rogers does not throttle your p2p by detecting ports.
Rogers throttling p2p packets by reading packet header.
Just because you are using VoIP port, rogers still know if it VoIP or P2P

Im confused by the whole thing... If you set your listening to port to 1720 how does this effect your upload download speed at all..? Isn't that specific to your computer.. The packets get sent to my router, which is based on the external IP.. then the router sends it to my specific port...... at least this is how i understood it..

can someone explain this.....

have you noticed that everything else you try to do is slower now that you have it on a lower port(ei.browse, game, streaming media)???
rogers is useless..switch to bell..i just went through all these hassles and switched to bell 3 mbps dsl..its plenty fast and everything is back to normal. Time to boycott the bastards

Well Bell has a 3mbps connection, isnt dropping packets from p2p networks, has unlimited bandwith usage, and cost 5 dollars less than rogers attempt at an equivalent..should be an easy choice

Rogers extreme is twice the time faster than Symaptico High Speed and 1mbit faster than HighSpeed Ultra.

Im paying the same for my 5Mbit internet as you for your 3mbit

Even if forwarding to a different port doesn't help, it will definitely stress their VOIP port.

If you are using bit torr3nt, try switching to BitCom3t becuase it has packet header encryption and Rogerz can't throttl3 if it doens't know what you are transferring.

BTW, there is a group boycott that supposed to happen on the 15th.

very true, but since VoIP is used alot, they cant check every header.
but with out using BT to encrypt the packets, you will be throttled down soon. Its on alot of forums, its BS how they can do this. Anyways even with it, using BT causes some serious unstable network problems. I need Tivo :p
