The i head route seems to be the best route to go. Also bumping up the compression a bit won't hurt it either (thinner gasket and/or shaved head).

You may want to PnP the head as well while you're at it.

The Super ETA has an "I" head! Its other parts that are not the same as the "I" motor; TB, FPR, ECU, injectors....

Yeap
Put everything from a "i" head up to the throttle body...
I would really recommend to shave the head 20thou to be sure it is good and it will get you a bit more compression since the Super ETA pistons suffers from lower compression"8.5 to 1 " compare to 8.8 to 1 on the i engine.
AS for the bottom end, replace all crank and connectiong rods bearings..up to the piston rings.

And yes it is strong, i drive mine to 7000rpm all day long.

Doesn't the superETA head come with the standard ETA camshaft? If it does an "i" cam is an upgrade.

No Paul you don't need too if you only shave 20thou...
believe me i know ...i shaved a i head 1.5mm with lots of work in the bowls and put it on a Super ETA block and it was working fine but the valves were very close to the pistons..

Literally just find an entire i head and throw it on.

Or, read Fred Kim's site: http://www.strictlyeta.net/

The only thing 'i' about the 1988 'super eta' head is the casting. Everything else is low end. Single valve springs etc.

Then just use a normal ETA bottom end, its that simple! Your compression will be lower, perfect for boost!!! Let me know next time so i keep one for you, i just got rid of 2 of those!
