1. Get Sony, they got this thing so you can record up to 320min on 1 MD
2. Are you ready to wait 320min to record MD???? That's why I rarely use mine. So if you are not, Get new Sony, it records 32 times faster than any md player. so 320min will take 10min to record.

if you drive MDs are the waste of money.
also you don't really need optical cable. I have and and never used it cause all my music is on computer. Optical cable is for home systems that has it.

I have an MD player, a Sony M505, and I love it, just hook up the USB to your computer, install the software and copy away, realistically, unless you have a kick ass computer, and usb 2.0, be ready to wait up to 20 for 5 hours of music. It takes longer to convert the MP3's to ATRAC then to transfer them from your comp to the player.
Also, any sort of electronic type music (dance, trance, techno.....)will sound decent at the 4x (320min) setting, but if you have any sort of rock, classical, anything with real instruments I wouldn't recommend compressing past the 2x (160min)setting, unless you're listening to it with earbud headphone where the sound quality isn't all the good anyway. (now that is a run on sentance!)
