Car & Driver compares 11 of the best tires
Good test, and may finally keep you guys quiet about the damn T1-Rs.
Points results overall (higher is better):
Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3: 1050.4
Continental ContisportContact 2: 1031.9
Yokohama Advan Neova AD07: 1027.0
Michelin Pilot Sport PS2: 1018.7
Hankook Ventus R-S2 Z212: 1015.4
Dunlop SP Sport Maxx: 1002.2
Pirelli P Zero Rosso Asimmetrico: 1002.1
Toyo Proxes T1R: 999.7
Bridgestone Potenza RE050A: 993.9
BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD: 993.0
Kumho Ecsta MX: 990.7
I wish the S-03s and RT-615s were included, but you can't get it all. Like I suspected, the R-S2s are badass for the prices they sell at.

Nah, I haven't even seen this mag on paper yet, just stumbled on the tire shootout. I really need to get a subscription again though, I love C&D.

Even though it scored high, they kind of explained the "oddity",
"It simply didn't feel as sporty as some of the other performers"
"On dry surfaces, the Conti never rose above third from last among 11 tires (3 different tests). It felt soft and imprecise, two qualities not in the vocabularies of performance tires. Geswein grouped it with the other "dull and disconnected" tires."
"So how, then, did it land in second place? There simply weren't huge gaps in the percentage differences among all the tires in dry situations. For example, the last-place tire was within 10 percent of the best tire. But in the wet, the spread from best to worst was 15 percent, which made for a larger point spread."
In my opinion they worent really talking about this tire as one should be when its in seccond place, it seems they where somewhat "blameing" the way they calculated the scores to bring it to such a rank. just my .02

Bought the mag, gonna read it when I have time (looked at it quickly). Keep in mind that the car they tested it on was an E90 325i... already not the most "responsive" car out there (purely performance speaking). I'm sure i'll be more than satisfied with my SportConti2 overall feel in a bone jarring, light-weight GT2 with coilovers/delrin/urethane throughout. The added wet grip is a bonus for me (prefer over dry grip... have R-compounds for track events) since a 650HP rwd 993TT is a handfull.

Yeah whatever it won't be raining here by then. But enjoy the snow! Try driving your smart backwards so you have a front-wheel-drive, stay safe! You'll still be dreaming up videos of your GT2 while I'll be cruising down the coast to a track day at Laguna Seca.

I just ordered a set of the Yokos. I will be running them track/street on my track rims. Im expecting a lot from these tires, as they performed really well in the article, the numbers dont tell the whole story.

Pej, I was wondering what tire you were selling the GS-D3 for. Good choice, after buying the mag today and reading through, the Neova kicks ass.
Personally I'm going with the Hankook R-S2 for track/street next season, mainly because it's the only tire tested available in the right size for my car (anything 225+ with a small diameter is very hard to find).

They dont make the RS2s in my sizes, or I would have tried them actually.
