Going to Ottawa/Montreal, the really empty parts of the highway(416/417 as well as the 40), you could hit 180, and there wont be a cop for miles, once the roads start lighting up, or becoming more congested, I would keep it under 120. Stuck to that plan over last weekend when I was travelling those routes, and had no problems. 401 is one of the worst highways to speed on, because cops are so random, that you can never predict when they will be on. Plus they are OPP, which arent afraid of slapping huge tickets and making them stick. My advice, is give yourself extra time, and dont "plan" on speeding, but if the situation and the occasion arise, then thats a different story.

Trust me, even 3 points on your license, will increase you premiums.
wish me luck i have court tmr

Oh, I thought you just got the ticket. I guess its a 50/50 chance. If the cop shows or doesn't. If he shows, plead not guilt, go in front of the judge, and say that your speedo is out a bit, tell him you may have been going a lil fast for a moment, to safely pass another vehicle, but resumed to the speed limit. Say you must have been tagged while passing th other vehicle, but surely, you werent travelling at the speed, the officer is describing.

Be very calm and subtle, try to use more educated language, and even if you get convicted, mention to the judge, I am a student, and work very little hours. Is there any way you can reduce the fine. This way, at least you dont set with the big fine. Always refer to the cop as "Officer", make sure you show respect, because the minute you become hostile, they wont side with you, even if your right.

Best case scenario, cop doesn't show, for what ever reason.

Good luck.

cops will show up to court for HTA offences unless they are on vacation or stuck on a radio call during shift

court is overtime for them if it is off duty!

My cop showed up last week (fri). The screwed up thing is...there were s'possed to be 4 cops there on that day & only 1 cop showed up. Guess who? My cop...o well. Just have to man up & face it. The judge cut the fine in half & no points.

They're usually doing selt belt checks for people on the on-ramp. This can be seen all over Scarborough, seems 42 division has a thing for those setups.

I have never seen an OPP trap on the 401 in the stretch Trevor mentioned, if anything they're just driving along waiting for an idiot to fly by. I also exploit that reality.

so how'd it turn out? on october 11 i went to court for a "disobey stop sign" ($110 and 3 pts!) ticket. i was actually ready to ask the prosecution for an adjournment to a later date, but when it was realized that the cop didnt show up, they threw my ticket out anyway and i got the hell outta there

I still haven't gotten any driving related tickets. I think it will be good once i do, i'll calm down. But i think i drive pretty responsibly, i never really cruise over 140, dont dart in and out of traffic too much. Just hoping i dont do nothin stupid

OPP issue tickets on the highway. I dont think Peel, Metro, etc can issue tickets on the highway, although the can radio you in. Not 100% how this works.

but in general, do you guys find cruising at like 125 to cause tickets? before i got my bmw i used to drive around 125-130, right past cops, they didn't mind as long as most other traffic was moving that fast

on the highway i dont think they'd mind 120-130 or so....if your doin that in relatively slow traffic, weaving between cars then thats different, they might give you "unsafe lane change" or even "reckless" for that
